Fresh off its debut at the 2017 New York International Auto Show, the all-new 2017 Honda Civic Si is making a showing on the safety scene, earning a five-star overall crashworthiness rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This sporty, powered-up Civic variant, based on the redesigned-for-2016 compact car, earned a perfect score in sedan form and fell just one star shy as a coupe.

The sedan scored five stars in all three NHTSA test categories, including frontal, side and rollover crash evaluations, for an overall five-star rating. The two-door version also got five stars overall, falling short by just one star in its frontal crash score. The new Si hasn't yet been rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

For comparison against segment mates, the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze earned a four-star NHTSA rating in both sedan and hatchback form, the 2017 Ford Focus earned a five-star overall rating for both its sedan and hatchback versions, both losing one star in the rollover rating, as did the 2017 Mazda3.

The Si is expected to reach dealerships next month at a starting price in the mid-$20,000 range like its predecessor.
